The 24/7 National Domestic Violence Hotline is available to answer questions, provide crisis intervention and safety planning information, and directly connect callers to domestic violence resources available in their local calling area.

In 2015, the Hotline answered 264,980 contacts and provided crisis intervention, safely planning, referrals, and education to callers who reached out for services. An overwhelming majority of the victims and survivors said they were experiencing emotional and verbal abuse, and physical abuse. Legal issues were one of their top concerns. Of the contacts that disclosed their locations, 3,382 were from Maryland, ranking the state #17 nationally in terms of contact volume.

Loveisrespect.org, a project of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Break The Cycle, is a 24-hour resource for teens and young adults experiencing dating violence and abuse. Trained advocates offer support, information and advocacy to those who have questions or concerns about their dating relationships as well as to friends and family members, teachers, counselors, service providers and members of law enforcement. In 2015, peer advocates answered 61,442 contacts and provided them with confidential safety and support information via phone, live chat and texting. Of those, 315 contacts revealed they were from Maryland and disclosed male victimization and same sex/LGBTQ as being top-ranking special factors in victims’ experiences. Maryland is ranked #13 nationally or in the top 25% in terms of contact volume.
