Keep Yourself Safe

Find Help

If you are a domestic violence victim, let the people who care about you help you. Develop a safety plan with your local domestic violence program. If you are in danger or need immediate help, call 911.

You are not alone. Help is available.

Safety planning encompasses many things, only one of which may be obtaining a Protective or Peace Order or calling the police. Other safety planning strategies may include:

    • Document the abuse by seeking medical attention and taking photographs of injuries.

    • Keep internet and computer safety in mind.

    • Connect with people you can trust and confide in and incorporate them into your safety plan.

    • Keep some money, a change of clothes, your spare keys, and important documents (list of important docs) in a safe place in case you need to leave in an emergency.
